SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah is losing a Sears location in Salt Lake City.
Closing is the Sears just south of the main downtown area, at 754 S. State St.
“We will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members,” a company representative said in a prepared statement.
“It’s important to note that these stores will remain open to serve members during the holiday season.”
Nationwide, 18 Sears stores will close, as will 45 Kmarts, which are owned by the same company, Sears Holdings. The company has not made a profit since 2010. By next July, Sears Holdings is expected to have 1,250 stores in the U.S., roughly half what it had in 2006.
The following Kmart and Sears locations will close in late January 2018. The auto centers at some, including the Utah location, will close in early December of this year.
