LAYTON, Utah, Nov. 3, 2017, (Gephardt Daily) — The northbound lanes of Interstate 15 were blocked during rush-hour Friday near Layton Parkway due to a minor accident that turned into a weapon-involved incident.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lawrence Hopper said a “minor fender bender” occurred at about 4:30 p.m. when a vehicle rear-ended the car in front of it.

Hopper said the man in the car that hit the one in front got out of his vehicle, brandished a weapon without saying anything, then got back into his vehicle and fatally shot himself.

The woman in the car that was rear-ended was not injured.

Police responded to the scene and had the northbound lanes of I-15 blocked while they investigated.

Gephardt Daily does not usually report on suicides unless they occur in public places or otherwise impact the community.
